Shedding weight is only half the challenge. The other half of your challenge is keeping the weight off. At times when we notice that we have lost weight then there is a little voice inside that says that there is now slightly more room to gobble down more! So we find ourselves back at the starting point. Here are some guidelines for how to lose pounds and keep it off.

Our body uses fuel throughout the day, so it makes sense to keep the fires stocked up throughout the day. Most health experts agree that eating many small meals is a lot better for you. Rather than stuffing out system full 3 times a day when out body doesn’t need it, and letting it run dry when it does need some fuel.

Only consume food when your body is hungry - the reason why most people gain fat is because they eat in excess. Some people will continue wolfing down a meal even though they are full. If your body doesn’t need the food it is going to be stored as fat.

We all explain away our behavior so that we can rationalize what we do. The same goes for cleaning the plate, we realize that we are privileged to live in a society where food is abundant and we feel guilty therefore to leave any. If you have that attitude then how about this, put less on the plate! Then it doesn’t matter if you finish everything or not. Stop building skyscrapers of food on your plate and just have a nice amount, you will be surprised what a reasonable sized meal looks like.

You will find that it is easy once you start to decrease the amount of food you put on the plate each time. Your body and mind adjust to having less food so you don’t feel hungry afterwards, and you will feel much better as you are not bloated and heavy from having your stomach weighed down with too much food.

It is imperative that you ditch all the bad food that you can, store it somewhere else if you can. If your kids want bad food then store it in the garage, that way when you want a night time snack on a cold night and you go to the fridge you do not have any temptation, but if you want to go out to the cold, dark garage in your underwear to get the bad stuff

Now there will be times when you are challenged by events or people around you. Learn to be able to walk away from situations where you are going to be tempted. If you family bring fish and chips home, eat your healthy dinner in the living room away from them. If watching cooking shows leaves you hungry then make sure you are doing something else when they are on so you don’t start watching them.

Losing weight is easy, but it is keeping that weight off that is hard. You need to strong and take a step back from your lifestyle and evaluate it. If you really want to keep the weight off then you have to be strong and follow the guidelines above, you can do it though, and the results will be well worth it.
